The staff of Dunbar School maintains high expectations in the classroom and around the campus. We are a community of independent learners that promote academic excellence. We cannot afford to lower the bar.  Our students must be able to compete not just with students in East St. Louis or Illinois, our students must be able to compete with students across the globe.

At Paul Laurence Dunbar Elementary School, we provide enriching opportunities that support students' academic, social, and personal growth beyond the classroom.

• After-School Program: Our after-school program offers a safe, structured environment where students receive homework assistance, participate in educational enrichment activities, and enjoy recreational opportunities that promote learning and development.
• Beta Club: The Beta Club recognizes and encourages academic excellence, leadership, character, and service. Members participate in school and community service projects while developing leadership skills and a commitment to excellence.
• Robotics Program: Our Robotics Program introduces students to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) through hands-on learning. Students work collaboratively to design, build, and program robots while developing critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
